The Basics of Pimple Prevention

Pimples are an unwelcome part of growing up, as well as they can plague people of almost any age.  Commonly pimples, or acne, can onset during teenage years as the body undergoes drastic hormonal changes.  Yet there are also many other causes that can also lead to pimples during these years, and even into adulthood.  In order to effectively treat pimples, it is necessary to first understand where they come from so that an appropriate remedy can be explored.

For most teenagers it is the chemical changes within the body which bring about unwanted pimples.  But for any age other factors such as oily skin, sweat and humidity, certain medications, and even stress can also be contributors.  Pimples simply are pores which have become clogged and infected.  Oils can become trapped inside the pores which trap dirt and bacteria, thereby causing an infection.  There are numerous products on the market that claim to be the “cure” to pimples and help you become acne free.

For any age one of the first things to do is to keep the face clean.  It is also a good idea not to touch the face unnecessarily, as hands will carry dirt and bacteria, dirt, and germs that will contribute to the condition. Often times faces can become sensitive as many of the cleansers on the market are harsh and abrasive.   Once the face is clean, it is a good idea to be aware of the moisturizers, make-up, and even hair products that are used.

Pimple popping is often a tempting way to deal with unwanted blemishes, but beware this can actually make the problem worse.  First of all it can potentially drive the infection even deeper into the pore and worsen the situation.  Secondly, repeated popping can lead to unwanted scaring and skin damage.

There are many supposed cures for pimples and acne on the market.  To successfully correct the problem it is first important to understand the causes and whether it is associated with habits, medications, or simply hormonal changes.  Next it is important to keep the skin clean and oil free.   Finally if the problem worsens, it would be a good idea to visit a dermatologist.  Sometimes in severe cases prescription medications can be necessary.  Just be careful when you attempt to remove a pimple because you could worsen the problem.
